On Thursday December 25 the Department of Agriculture of the United States recalled about 750 pounds (340 kilos) sausage contaminated with Listeria.
A fatal disease
The contaminated sausage company belonged to T. Piekutowski European Style Sausage, and sold in a shop in the same company in St. Louis (Missouri).
Consumption of this sausage contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis. It is an uncommon disease, but potentially lethal.
According to the Inspection Service and Food Safety, on 18 and 19 December the store sold a fair amount of this sausage with Listeria, so there might be cases of human contamination.
